How to Stop a Fire

Stopping a fire needs to be done quickly and safely. Here are the steps to handle a fire:

1. Cut the Power

Turn off the power. If it is safe to do turn off the main power switch or circuit breaker. This helps prevent shock and stops the fire from spreading.
Unplug devices if the fire is coming from one.

2. Do Not Use Water

Water conducts electricity. Can make the fire worse. Do not use water on a fire.

3. Use a Fire Extinguisher

Use one that is rated for fires. These extinguishers use chemicals that do not conduct electricity.
To use it aim the nozzle at the base of the fire squeeze the handle and move it from side to side.

4. Call for Help

If the electrical fire is big or you cannot control it call emergency services.

5. Get Out if Necessary
