A GFCI is an important safety device that helps protect people from getting hurt by electricity.

🔎 What Problem Does GFCI Solve?

Normally electricity flows from the hot wire through a device and back through the neutral wire.

The amount of electricity going out should be the same as the amount coming

In countries, including the United States GFCI protection is required in areas that are wet or damp such as:

This type of GFCI is installed in place of a wall socket.

It has TEST and RESET buttons.

It protects itself and other outlets that are connected to it.

2️⃣ GFCI Circuit Breaker

This type of GFCI is installed in the distribution panel.

It protects the circuit.

3️⃣ Portable GFCI

This type of GFCI is used for construction sites or outdoor tools.

It plugs into an outlet.

A GFCI protects people from shock.

It does not protect against too much electricity flowing through a circuit.

It also does not protect against circuits.

Normal circuit breakers handle these types of problems.
